UTI Symptoms: When to See a Urologist
Burning urine, frequent urges, and lower abdominal discomfort can be a urinary tract infection. See a urologist promptly if you have fever, back or side pain, blood in the urine, vomiting, or if you are pregnant. Men and anyone with a third infection in a year also need an evaluation, not another leftover antibiotic. Dr. Aman Chandra Deshpande sees these problems at Samanwi Clinics in Saroornagar.
What is a urinary tract infection?
A UTI is bacteria in the urine that irritate the bladder, and sometimes the kidney. The common bladder pattern is burning, urgency, and passing small amounts often. Kidney involvement adds fever, chills, and pain in the flank. Those are different problems and need different speed.
Cooler November weather in Hyderabad does not cause infection by itself. People drink less, hold urine through long commutes, and wipe or wash less carefully after sex. Those habits make an infection more likely. The clinic’s urinary tract infection page lists the care offered after the cause is confirmed.
Which symptoms should not wait for a routine slot?
Go the same day, including to emergency care if you feel very unwell, when you have:
- Fever, shaking chills, or pain in the side or back
- Vomiting, confusion, or inability to keep water down
- Pregnancy plus any urinary symptom
- Blood in the urine, or no urine at all
- A recent kidney stone, a single kidney, or diabetes with rising sugars
Why do repeat infections need more than another tablet?
One confirmed bladder infection in an otherwise well woman is often treated with a short antibiotic chosen after a urine test when possible. A third episode in twelve months, any infection in a man, or infection that returns days after tablets finish needs a look for stones, incomplete bladder emptying, or an incorrect first diagnosis. Starting a previous strip of antibiotics before the urine sample makes that test harder to read.
Pain that comes in waves can be a stone rather than an infection. That pathway is explained in the October note on kidney stone pain.

Common questions
Can I treat burning urine with more water only?
Water helps, but fever, back pain, pregnancy, or symptoms that last more than a day need a doctor. An untreated kidney infection can become serious.
Should men with burning urine see a urologist?
Yes. A bladder infection is less common in men, so the visit looks for prostate, stone, or emptying problems rather than repeating the same tablet.
Does a urine culture matter?
It matters when infection is severe, returns, or happens in pregnancy or in a man. The sample is most useful before antibiotics start.
